Adele (left) shares her Pilates story!

After multiple family stressors, and then a significant and unexpected loss, I decided to make some changes by focusing on my physical and mental health more than I had before.

I took some time from uni and work and slowed right down.

I had recently spoken to a friend who said how much they enjoyed reformer Pilates, and I thought why not, I’ll give anything a go at the moment.

I booked an INTRO package at Pilates Haus and went along to a private session with the wonderful Karolina.

I was very nervous and didn’t know what to expect. In particular I was worried about what movements I would be limited to due to chronic pain and injuries.

I have suffered from chronic lower back pain since the age of 4, and most recently (2023) tore the ligaments around my tailbone.

Despite some relief with regular massage and chiropractic sessions as well as keeping physically active in kickboxing, nothing seemed to provide the level of relief I needed.

I had further been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in my left foot, which left me unable to walk properly and without pain. Mentally, I had hit a very tough space with my chronic depression and anxiety weighing heavily on me.

To say that walking into the private session with Karolina changed my life, is an understatement.

It does sound very cliché however this is the impact Pilates, and Pilates Haus in particular has had on me.

I no longer have plantar fasciitis, and my lower back is becoming stronger with every session.

I do still suffer with pain, and some days are better than others, however, my core has become so much stronger and supportive of my back that I have been able to engage in almost every sequence thrown at me in class.

In terms of my mental health, it has improved significantly. Some days are better than others, but travelling to class, during class, and after class, I notice how much of a boost Pilates gives me.

My husband, kids and friends have all commented that I seem to be my old self again- and finding joy.

I have been so fortunate to have a wonderful group of instructors who have listened to my concerns, provided advice and alternate exercises or stances when I needed it, and have genuinely been interested in helping me grow and become stronger.

I am so grateful to them all, and I have plans to implement Pilates into my work to help other women who may not have been given the opportunities and support that I have.

Thank you sharing your story Adele! YOU are amazing and we are your biggest cheerleaders xx Pilates Haus team x
